Graphene pioneer awarded £4 million grant by EPSRC

(2D Materials Magazine)- The University of Manchester’s Sir Kostya Novoselov, who along with Sir Andre Geim received the Nobel Prize for Physics for their work creating graphene has been awarded a £4m grant by theEngineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) to study the properties of 2D materials. The funding is part of £21 million in grants allocated by the EPSRC. Overall, 20 universities in the UK and 80 partners will collaborate together for the study, which will be carried out in response to a call titled, ”Towards Engineering Grand Challenges: Network and Multidisciplinary Research Consortia.”

Science Minister Jo Johnson:

“As a One Nation Government we are investing in world-class science and engineering across our country. “We want the UK to be the best place in Europe to innovate and this £21 million investment will bring together the nation’s researchers to address some of the most pressing engineering challenges we face.”
