First Graphite Ltd to collaborate Flinders University on graphene technology

First Graphite Ltd will collaborate with Flinders University to commercially develop and scale-up a graphene purification technology pioneered by professor Colin Raston.

Professor Colin Raston is the winner of the Ig Nobel prize for refolding proteins with a Vortex Fluidic Device (VFD).

The application of VFD covers a growing number of processing capabilities, from small molecule synthesis through to processing advanced materials.

First Graphite is looking to develop and scale-up the technology to reach its commercial potential of delivering high-value carbon materials to global markets.

The company is currently aiming to develop an underground mining operation in Sri Lanka to extract high-grade, crystalline vein graphite.

Earlier this month, First Graphite commissioned a graphene production cell in Australia, which uses graphite as raw material.

Having established the ability to produce graphene at a low cost, the company is continuing to identify commercial applications of graphene.

Scientists are currently working on enhancing the capability of lithium ion batteries by incorporating graphene as an anode to offer much higher storage capacity.
